How Inter plan to reduce €143m annual wage bill
Inter are beginning to work on cost-reduction methods surrounding player salaries, as the Nerazzurri currently pay out more in wages than any other team in Serie A. Here is how Beppe Marotta and his staff plan to lower the club’s expenditures.
How Inter plan to reduce increasing wage bill
According to recent reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter currently spend a gross figure of around €143m per season on salaries (€86.5m net). For comparison, Juventus spend the second most with annual outgoings of around €108.5m, then Milan with €104m and Napoli at around €83m.
In order to reduce the cost of salaries over time, Inter are prepared to gamble on young talents in the transfer market, using the likes of Yann Aurel Bisseck and Tomas Palacios as examples.
Effectively, Inter want to bring in young talents at a low cost, before they realise their full potential, and then reward them with improved contract terms once they have proved their worth in the first-team.
Bisseck is the most recent example of this policy. He was brought in for €7m from Aarhus last summer and initially earned a wage packet that totalled less than €1m per season. After proving himself as a regular starter, he has since penned a one-year extension with new and improved terms.
As the Nerazzurri squad is still considered competitive both in Serie A and in Europe, Inter feel that now is the best time to focus on their recruitment of young players, gradually bedding them in with the pre-existing first-team stars.
