How NJ’s Film Industry Creates Growth Opportunities for Small Business

Learn more about how the film tax incentives that are attracting movie and TV productions to New Jersey are also creating growth opportunities for the state’s small businesses during a free online seminar next week hosted by the volunteers of SCORE’s Central Jersey chapter.

Registration is open now for “New Jersey’s Film Industry: An Economic Engine for Small Business,” a live, online event that will take place from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24. The Film Ready NJ program, which is helping communities reposition themselves to maximize the positive effect of local film productions, will also be discussed.

SCORE is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The financial support from the SBA, and the efforts of more than 10,000 business experts nationwide who volunteer their time, allow SCORE programming to be made available to entrepreneurs and business owners at no cost.

Since the revival and enhancement of the Film and Digital Media Tax Credit Program, New Jersey has attracted 166 feature films, TV shows and digital media projects that have collectively generated $2.3 billion in spending, according to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). Filmmaking occurs in every county from Cape May to Sussex.

The Film Ready NJ program, an initiative of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission within the NJEDA, is helping to prepare communities for an influx of film and TV production. It offers a five-step certification and marketing program that educates municipalities on the basics of motion picture and television production and enables cities and towns to market and effectively accommodate on-location filming.
