‘I don’t feel that age:’ World’s oldest living man celebrates his 112th birthday

(Gray News) – The world’s oldest living man is now another year older, having celebrated his 112th birthday.

John Tinniswood celebrated his birthday with family and friends at his care home in Southport, England, last week, according to Guinness World Records.

He said to Guinness World Records that he doesn’t feel any different now that he is 112.

“In all honesty, no different. I don’t feel that age, I don’t get excited over it,” Tinniswood told Guinness World Records. “That’s probably why I reached it. I just take in my stride like anything else.”

The great-grandfather was born on August 26, 1912, a few months after the Titanic sank. CNN reported both New Mexico and Arizona became U.S. states that same year.

Tinniswood earned the title of the world’s oldest living man in April of this year after the previous record holder, Juan Vicente Pérez Mora, died at the age of 114, the Associated Press reported.

A former accountant, Tinniswood also holds the title oldest surviving male World War II veteran having served in the Royal Army Pay Corps. during the war.

Tinniswood said one of his fondest memories is marrying his wife, Blodwen, in 1942. They were married for 44 years until Blowden’s death in 1986.

When asked about what has changed about the world in his lifetime, Tinniswood said that the world feels “smaller” thanks to the airplane. But besides that, he said not much seems different.

“It’s no better in my opinion, or hardly any better, that it was then,” he said “Probably in some places it is, but in other places, it’s worse.”

According to Tinniswood, the secret to his long life is “pure luck” and moderation, with some help from a weekly meal of fish and chips.

“You either live long or you live short, and you can’t do much about it,” he said.

Tinniswood doesn’t smoke and rarely drinks and said that his main trick to a healthy life is to do everything in moderation.

“If you drink too much or you eat too much or you walk too much; if you do too much of anything, you’re going to suffer eventually,” he told Guinness World Records.
