I Love You, Jennifer Garner, But This Thriller Might Be the Worst Movie You Ever Made

The action thriller follows Riley North (Garner) after her husband and daughter are brutally murdered by members of a cartel. When the justice system fails her, she decides to take matters into her own hands to seek revenge. She temporarily disappears from town, only to return as a full-blown bad-guy-killer. Now she can fight, kill and carry out her own form of justice on those who took away her family.

On the surface, this doesn’t sound too terrible. After all, Garner excels in the ass-kicking genre (Alias, Elektra, Wolverine & Deadpool, Daredevil, the list goes on and on). But this particular form of ass-kicking kinda doesn’t make sense.

As I mentioned, in Peppermint, Garner’s character disappears and comes back as a trained killer. Buttttt how did this happen? We don’t see her train. We don’t see her learn how to shoot. We don’t have any inkling into how she went from sweet suburban mom to sharpshooting vigilante with a penchant for hand-to-hand combat. We’re just supposed to accept that anybody can simply learn these skills in a few short years if the motivation is great enough. Hmm…
