I sued Walmart for free lifetime shopping – the battle raged on for years

A JUDGE dismissed a case by a Walmart customer who complained of slander, malicious prosecution, false imprisonment or detainment, and false allegations of a crime.

The man, Roderick Jackson, asked that he be awarded $100 million or unlimited free lifetime shopping at any Walmart.

Jackson originally filed a complaint against Walmart on January 8 to the United States District Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Arkansas. 

Jackson’s initial complaint revolved around a situation that occurred at a Walmart in Nebraska in March 2021. 

Jackson did not use an attorney to file his complaints.

Originally, Jackson complained of “false pretense of shoplifting” and complained of suffering “civil rights violation based on race/color.”

After reviewing the complaints, the court dismissed Jackson’s complaint.

“Jackson has failed to properly complete the civil complaint form and as a result, it is difficult, if not impossible, for the court to determine the jurisdictional, legal, and factual basis for plaintiff’s allegation of ‘false pretense of shoplifting’,” court documents said.

Following the court’s ruling, Jackson revised his complaint.

Jackson made his revisions in February, now citing libel or slander, malicious prosecution, false imprisonment or detainment, and false allegations of a crime.

In Jackson’s latest amendment, he dropped his request of free lifetime shopping at any Walmart location and now only asked for $100 million in damages. 

However, Judge Timothy Brooks dismissed the case on April 16 per Walmart’s request.

Brooks cited failure to state a proper claim and lack of jurisdiction as the reasons the case was dropped.

“As we’ve said all along, we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and Mr. Jackson’s claims are without merit. We’re pleased with the Court’s decision,” Walmart told KNWA/KFTA.

Jackson filed a handwritten appeal to the judge’s decision on April 22.

Jackson previously sued Walmart in 2021 regarding an incident at a store in Omaha, Nebraska, according to court records. 

Jackson claims he was “racially profiled the entire time in the store from the beginning to end which led to false accusations of a crime of stealing, which led to a false arrest.”

Jackson also claims that he suffered injuries due to tight handcuffs being put on him as he was detained.

Jackson asked for $100 million, then changed his ask to $175 million. 

The court records note that he has since been banned from that Walmart location.

It is not clear if this incident was related to his most recent complaint.
