Illegal internet gambling cafes in DeLand, Orange City shut down
Two employees who were working at Preview Games when it was shut down in July were arrested when the sheriff’s office said it found them there again on Thursday.
Four internet cafe casinos in DeLand and Orange City, including three that reopened after being shut down, were raided by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, according to a social media post.
Detectives seized more than 100 illegal casino machines and more than $114,000 from the four on Thursday, the post from the sheriff’s office stated.
The four internet casinos shut down were: Preview Games in Orange City and Comptrek, Cyber Monkey, and Smash Monkey in DeLand.
Two employees who were at Preview Games when the location was shut down by Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputies in July were there again on Thursday. The employees, who were not identified in the post, were arrested and charged with acting as employees of an illegal gambling house and permitting the operation of slot machines, each is a second-degree misdemeanor.
Smash Monkey was where deputies found and arrested a suspect accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a senior couple, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, who was not identified in the post, was gambling on a machine when she was arrested, the Sheriff’s Office stated.
The Sheriff’s Office posted last month a video of a deputy arresting Yvonne Wroblewski at an internet cafe in DeLand.
