I’m At Copenhagen Fashion Week, And Everyone Is Wearing Capri Pants
When it comes to street-style trends, sometimes it can take multiple weeks, and even multiple cities, for the hero pieces to fully emerge. Other times, it can take less than a day, as has proven to be the case at Copenhagen Fashion Week this year. I had been in the Danish capital for all of 24 hours before I realised that everyone was walking around in the same pair of trousers. Not only that, it was a trouser style considered by many to be one of the more divisive trends of the season. Capri pants, your Copenhagen moment has arrived.
I saw not one, not two, but at least 10 people (and counting) clad in this throwback look. But what really struck me was how no two women were wearing their capris in quite the same way. A minimalist monochrome pairing seemed to be a popular choice, styling-wise, but I also spotted sporty polo tops, sheer blouses, layered shirts and leather jackets, as well as every type of shoe you could imagine, from heeled flip-flops to ballet pumps. If that wasn’t enough, capris have also already made a number of appearances on the runways – including at Opera Sport and A.Roege Hove – which suggests these trousers will be sticking around for the rest of this year and into summer 2025.
I have to admit, I’ve never considered capri pants to be a particularly versatile trend, but these show-goers have well and truly proven me wrong. And while they certainly looked the part on a sunny day in Denmark, I’m now convinced they’ll adapt equally well to autumn, too. I’m picturing a ribbed roll-neck, boxy leather jacket and pointed flats. All aboard the Noughties train!
