‘I’m Turning Jobs Down’: Armie Hammer Says Acting Career Back on Track 4 Years After Cannibalism Scandal

Controversial actor Armie Hammer was seemingly blacklisted from Hollywood after troubling allegations were made about him four years ago. Now, however, Hammer says he’s getting to the point where he can start turning down roles again as he gets his acting career back on track.

Hammer addressed his career in a new interview with Christina Pazsitszy and Tom Segura for the Your Mom’s House podcast. Referring to the “cannibal” label that contributed to Hammer’s downfall, the episode is titled, “Just Lemme Eat Ya w/ Armie Hammer.” When Hammer was asked if there was a path for redemption for him with regards to coming back from his controversy, the Death on the Nile star explained that he’s at the start of that stage now.

Armie Hammer opens about being sexually abused as a child and having suicidal thoughts after being accused of sexual assault and rape by women.

“The worm is turning, right, and it takes time,” Hammer said. “But generally, now, the conversation, when my names comes up with people in the industry, is, ‘Man, that guy got f***ed.’ You know? And that feels really good. It’s really encouraging.”

He continued, “I just shot a movie. I just shot a movie, and I have two more movies coming up, and a potential TV show. A potential TV show, that the head of a studio signed off on me. So, it’s like, it feels like [I’m back]… I mean, I wouldn’t say I’m back back… I’m working.”

“I’m turning jobs down,” Hammer went on to state in the interview. “My dance card’s getting pretty full. By the way, my first job that I turned down after four years of this sh*t, I mean, it was the best feeling I ever had.

Kevin Spacey Will Be Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award

Controversial actor Kevin Spacey gets a lifetime achievement award in Europe as he rehabilitates his image following several legal issues.

Segura joked that the tide might be turning for Hammer now that the “gays are out of the White House.” Hammer rejected that notion, noting, “Listen, the gays were my biggest advocates, by the way. Because they were like, ‘Oh, honey, the sh*t you said, if people hacked Grindr, and saw what we were talking about on there, none of us would work.'”

Armie Hammer Praises Another Controversial Actor

It was also agreed upon by Segura and Hammer that Kevin Spacey should also be given a chance to continue working in Hollywood after his own controversies. Among the accusations made against Spacey is that he’d groped others without consent. Segura joked that Spacey should still be allowed to work even if the allegations were theoretically true, while Hammer glowed over the House of Cards star’s talents.

“When is Kevin Spacey coming back? I don’t care who he fondled,” Segura said. “He can fondle me. I love watching that man work. He is an incredible actor.”

Hammer responded, “He is amazing. I mean, American Beauty? Everything he does.”

Hammer is known for his roles in movies like The Lone Ranger, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Call Me by Your Name. In 2021, his career took a major hit when he was accused of sexual assault by one woman, with two others subsequently alleging abuse. A text message exchange with one accuser posted online included texts sent by Hammer that referred to cannibalism, outright referring to himself as a “cannibal” in one message. Hammer later admitted to the texts, though he stressed that he was roleplaying and had never legitimately eaten human flesh. He adamantly denied the sexual assault allegation, and the police ultimately declined to file charges due to insufficient evidence.

“People called me a cannibal,” Hammer said of the scandal in a previous interview for the Painful Lessons podcast. “Like I ate people! What? You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people! […] It was an ego death, a career death. A neutron bomb went off in my life. It killed off [everything].”

Meanwhile, the first film to feature Hammer in his return to acting will be Travis Mills’ upcoming Western movie Frontier Crucible. Also starring Thomas Jane and William H. Macy, the movie has wrapped filming but does not yet have a release date.
