Indiana couple travels to North Carolina to deliver supplies to Hurricane Helene victims

LAWRENCEBURG, IN (WXIX) -A couple from Lawrenceburg, Indiana, is traveling to North Carolina on Monday to deliver supplies to residents affected by Hurricane Helene.

In less than a week, Steve Rech, his wife, and others from the Harrison community have gathered 4,000 bottles of water, hygiene products, baby items, pet supplies, and cold-weather items.

“It’s just their need; the community brought it together for us; they need it. We’ll bring it.” Rech said.

More than 100 people died due to the hurricane, and at least 300,000 people are still without power. Thousands are still without homes and essential supplies.

“Right now, we can’t take any more donations, but the only thing I can tell people is just love people, just love them,” Rech explains.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of North Carolina are still under a flood warning. In addition, North Carolina may experience the impact of another approaching hurricane, Hurricane Milton, according to the FOX19 NOW sister station in Wilmington, WECT.
