TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Head of the International Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Krishna Murti, stated that the police are collaborating with Interpol to eradicate the growing online gambling practices in Indonesia. “We have a technical level meeting this week, the Senior Officer Meeting on Transnational Crime,” said Krishna, quoted from the National Police Public Relations page on Monday, June 24, 2024.

According to Krishna, the meeting is held in Laos. The police aim to increase exchange of information with the international police organization. “Which can help identify, track down, and take action against online gambling operations in Indonesian territory,” he said

Apart from collaborating with Interpol, the National Police will also collaborate with the police of neighboring countries. Many Indonesian nationals are involved in online gambling operations in several Southeast Asian countries, adding to the urgency of gambling eradication in Indonesia.

“We revoked the passports, restricted, banned, and prevented those who are suspected of going into other countries for online gambling operations from leaving (Indonesia),” said Krishna.

The National Police hopes that cross-border cooperation and a more intensive exchange of information can effectively eradicate the practice of online gambling. It also provides a strong deterrent effect for illegal online gambling perpetrators.

On the other hand, the National Police’s collaborative efforts can hopefully provide a sense of security and protection to the Indonesian people from online gambling’s negative influence.
