Influencer charged in crash that killed 83-year-old woman out shopping with husband
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KCAL/KCBS) – A social media influencer is facing murder charges after a crash that killed an 83-year-old California woman. However, the suspect is reportedly in a coma following a separate accident that left him in grave condition.
Greg Morris says his mother, 83-year-old Esther Abouab, was a gifted artist. She loved to sing and dance and have nightly dinner with family, who all lived within two miles of each other.
Abouab and her husband of 58 years had gone grocery shopping just after 4 p.m. Oct 10 when their SUV collided with another SUV at a street corner in West Hollywood, reportedly sending the Abouabs’ SUV flying into a garage gate.
Abouab’s family says emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to extract her and her 82-year-old husband from the wreckage. She did not survive.
The driver of the other SUV, who was identified as 33-year-old Garrett Bruno, was treated and released. The social media influencer was later charged with murder and reckless driving in relation to the crash.
The Daily Mail is reporting Bruno was in a scooter accident on Oct. 25 that left him in a coma.
Morris says Bruno has shown no remorse for what happened, and with his apparent hospitalization, Bruno has once again taken something from them by delaying having to answer or pay for what he did. He adds that when his mother was killed, it killed their whole family.
If convicted, Bruno could face 15 years to life in prison.
