Infrastructure work continues for Greenville’s University Ridge project
GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – It’s a development six years in the making, the billion dollar University Ridge investment project is underway in downtown Greenville.
Recently developers completed demolition of the old county square—but it’ll be a while longer before you see buildings take shape.
“We are trying to complement what’s taking place currently on Main Street. This is an extension of downtown,” said Danielle Handy, the Development Manager with Roca Point Partners.
The University Ridge project plans for office buildings, retail, restaurants and more.
“We have Ginya [Izakaya], Flemings Steakhouse, Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, Whole Foods, we’ve had really great momentum with our retail and tenant leasing. So as the project is developed and we start seeing some of these projects open, you can expect to see bustling activity,” said Handy.
The majority of spaces have already been leased. The project also includes a common area for entertainment and vendors. Plus features aiming to connect the project to the Haynie-Sirrine neighborhood.
“Multi-use trails and sidewalks and bike paths to make sure our connectivity is as great as possible. and we’ve also really been focusing on our streetscapes to make it warm and inviting,” she said.
Despite rising construction costs, Handy says they haven’t faced major setbacks. For the last year crews have worked to put underground infrastructure in place—sewer, stormwater, utilities and fiber. Handy says it’s a large task for the $30 million square foot project. They’ll need about one more year before they can begin to build up—starting with a Lima One office building next to county square.
“We’re looking to get going on one office building here shortly, so, you know, that’s what you can expect in the next year,” said Handy.
Handy says throughout the next few years Roca Point will release more renderings for the project. There’s no set date for when the entire project may be completed.
