Insiders Estimate Apple AI is Two Years Behind Competition [Gurman]
Despite its efforts with Apple Intelligence, internal studies show the Apple’s artificial intelligence is more than two years behind rivals, according to a new report from Mark Gurman.
In a recent newsletter to subscribers, Gurman writes…
Compared with the latest fare from Google, OpenAI and Meta Platforms Inc., Apple’s AI is still far behind. Even some internal studies at Apple reflect this, I’m told. The research found that OpenAI’s ChatGPT was 25% more accurate than Apple’s Siri, and able to answer 30% more questions. In fact, some at Apple believe that its generative AI technology — at least, so far — is more than two years behind the industry leaders.
Despite the slow start, Gurman notes that Apple has nearly unlimited resources and has previously come from behind to be successful. With a combination of development, talent acquisition, and strategic buyouts, Apple will likely become a major player in the AI space, closing the gap with industry leaders.
Apple will introduce its first AI features with the launch of iOS 18.1 later this month. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS to be notified when the software update becomes available!
