Intense snowstorm restricts travel along Lake Erie in northeastern Ohio

An intense lake effect snowstorm was expected to blanket portions of northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania with up to 30 inches of snow on Friday night and today, making travel “dangerous and nearly impossible” along Lake Erie, the National Weather Service said.

The snow should begin lifting north this morning, the agency said.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation temporarily closed Interstate 90 from Interstate 79 near Erie to the New York state line. Interstate 86 westbound lanes from I-90 to the New York state line also were closed.

What’s the Canton weather forecast?

The Canton region was expected to receive less than an inch of snow but it will be cold. The National Weather Service predicted a high temperature of 26 degrees today. The low is expected to be 20 degrees tonight.

Here’s a look at the Canton weather forecast through the weekend and into Monday:

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27. West wind 7 to 10 mph.

Sunday night: A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. West wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday: A chance of snow showers, mainly after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 33. West wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday night: A chance of snow showers, mainly before 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 20. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
