iOS 18 Bug Is Repeatedly Crashing Messages App On The iPhone, Here’s What You Should Do To Avoid It
Apple released iOS 18 to the general public earlier this week, and the update brings a handful of front-facing additions to the platform. A few days after its release, a user reported a bug in iOS 18 that caused the Messages app to crash repeatedly on iPhone, and it has been very annoying for some users.
A bug in iOS 18 is causing the Messages app to crash repeatedly on the iPhone and iPad when you send a watch face
As reported by 9to5mac, there is a bug in iOS 18 that is crashing the Messages app on the iPhone. The bug us triggered when you send or receive a watch face from your Apple Watch. The Apple Watch comes with a feature that lets you share a customized watch face with your friend, making it easier to share personalized options.
The bug comes into play when a user replies to the shared watch face in a thread on an iPhone running iOS 18. The strange aspect of the bug is that it affects both the sender and the receiver of the watch face on the iPhone, iPad, and even the Mac, where the Messages app crashes repeatedly. Every time you open the conversation, the bug will be triggered, causing the app to crash one after another.
To avoid the bug, you should not share your Apple Watch’s watch face with any of your friends or family for now. Moreover, if you receive a watch face from some one, just leave it as is and at any cost, do not reply to it in a thread. You should follow these cautions until the company releases a dedicated update with a fix.
Note that there is an easy fix for the issue, but it comes with a cost, and you can perform it right on your iPhone. However, the fix requires you to delete the conversation entirely, which means that you will have to forgo your entire chat history with a specific contact. Additionally, deleting the conversation is a feat, as the Messages app keeps on crashing, making it difficult. If you try to restore the conversation, the bug will be activated again, which means that you will have to let go of the conversation for good.
Apple has possibly taken note of the issue and the bug will be addressed in the upcoming iOS 18 point update. This means that the update will be minor in scale and it will only cater to the underlying bugs and stability issues on the iPhone. We will keep you posted when the update arrives, so be sure to stick around.
