Known for his eclectic looks on “Is It Cake,” Andrew Fuller is taking his style from Des Moines to New York Fashion Week.
Fuller will be a model in the Floating Fashion show, which will take place on a boat, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8 in New York. While this is his first fashion show, Fuller has always been passionate about style.
How did Andrew Fuller find his way to the runway?
Haus of Harleen, a fashion house from designer Harleen Middleton, reached out to Fuller with an invite as a VIP front-row guest to the New York Fashion Week at the Met. Middleton sought out Fuller because she had a specific look in mind for him. She also gave Fuller the distinct honor of being the celebrity guest to close the show
What will Andrew Fuller wear during the Floating Fashion show?
Middleton chose Fuller because she knew he was a big fan of Tim Burton and Beetlejuice. Fuller describes his look as a sort of androgynous Beetlejuice/Lydia Deetz-inspired hybrid look with a touch of Edward Scissorhands thrown in for good measure.
“I am obsessed with weird fashion, maximalism, and honestly, any sort of fashion that isn’t practical,” Fuller told the Register in an email. “After my win on Netflix’s ‘Is It Cake?’ fashion brands and designers have noticed my distinct and recognizable look and I have been slowly trying to wedge my way into the wacky world of fashion. This is my first fashion show and I gotta say, New York Fashion Week is a darn good debut.”
Fuller is most excited to not only sit at the show but walk.
“I will get to meet celebrities, designers, and other humans as excited about fashion as myself,” Fuller said. “After seeing the Paris Fashion Week Maison Margiela show that blew my mind and the rest of the internet, I’m just excited to be a part of this world for a moment and I hope to contribute to an impactful moment in fashion.”
Who is Andrew Fuller?
Fuller won Netflix’s “Is It Cake” season one, walking away with $80,000. During the show, Fuller deceived judges with cakes resembling a suitcase, conch shell and red solo cups.
Fuller brought the show to Des Moines with his cake studio Sugar Freakshow. Fuller makes realistic-looking cakes to order. Recently he made a cake for Casey’s celebrating 21 years of breakfast pizza, and of course, the cake looked just like a breakfast pizza.
