Is Samsung’s One UI 7 beta coming to more Galaxy devices?
Samsung’s rollout for One UI 7, the Android 15 update for Galaxy devices, has been slow and heavily delayed, and while a beta is ongoing, the question begs to be asked – is Samsung still bringing the One UI 7 beta to more devices?
Over the past few years, Samsung’s major Android updates have followed a fairly predictable pattern. A beta program kicks off first to iron out bugs and give developers a chance to update apps. The beta launches first on the company’s current Galaxy S flagship before expanding over the weeks that follow to prior generations, foldables, and tablets. Then, after a month or two goes by, Samsung starts to roll out the update to all users on a device-by-device basis, then debuts a “.1” update on its next-generation flagship.
This time, things are very different.
One UI 7 should have had its first beta debut in October based on Samsung’s past schedule, but it was delayed several times, only finally launching on the Galaxy S24 series on December 5. A second beta update was then released on December 16. However, Samsung has yet to expand the program to any more Galaxy devices, again breaking its established pattern.
This doesn’t completely break the established pattern, though. The first One UI 6 beta was released on August 11, 2023 and was then followed with a second update on August 31, and finally an expansion to more devices on September 8, a little under a month later, and to more devices just days later.
While Samsung is technically late in expanding the program this time around, it’s not hard to see that the reason why is simply the timing. The One UI 7 beta is rolling out around the holidays, when many employees are out of office, very likely slowing down development and testing. If Samsung does expand the program, it’s likely to do so in the next couple of weeks.
However, there are two other things to consider.
Firstly, we already know when the first stable One UI 7 builds will debut. Samsung has already confirmed that this update will launch in full on the Galaxy S25 series, meaning that we will see stable builds as soon as early February (when the Galaxy S25 series is expected to go on sale), with an expansion to other devices coming later on.
Meanwhile, a leaker claims that Samsung has no plans to expand the beta rollout beyond the Galaxy S24 series. There’s not been much to corroborate this, and the timeline we’ve laid out above still leaves plenty of room for Samsung to expand the beta. However, given the fast-approaching debut of One UI 7 on the Galaxy S25 series, it does suggest that Samsung may end up skipping the wider beta expansion for the sake of keeping attention on its upcoming flagship release.
Currently, there’s no firm answer for this question, but it seems more likely than not that the One UI 7 beta won’t be released beyond the Galaxy S24 series at this point.
