The calendar flips from 2024 to 2025 this week, which for millions of Americans means celebrating the arrival of the new year with friends and family.

Most grocery, retail and restaurant chains will remain open on New Year’s Day, albeit some with adjusted hours. Most were also open on New Year’s Eve, with some businesses operating under adjusted hours.

If you need to make a last-minute run to the store to pick up something for your New Year’s Eve party, Walmart will be an option for you this year, as the company told USA TODAY their stores will be open regular hours on Jan. 1.

When do Walmart stores open and close?

Walmart stores regularly operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. You can always check Walmart.com to find a nearby store and its hours.

What retail stores are open on New Year’s Day?

The following retail stores will be open on New Year’s Day. Hours are listed for the companies that provided them.

  • Kohls; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • TJ Maxx; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Marshall’s; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • HomeGoods; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • JCPenney; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Nordstrom; Most stores open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Home Depot; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Lowe’s; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
