‘It’s Bills or retire’: Micah Hyde talks future ahead of charity softball game

Longtime Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde is in town ahead of his annual charity softball game, and said Thursday that his football future remains unknown.  

Hyde, who is currently a free agent, played for the Bills since 2017. In 2022, he suffered a neck injury that sidelined him for almost all of the 2022-23 season. It also kept him out of three games last year.

While Hyde is currently not under contract, he says when it comes to the upcoming football season, it’s “Bills or retire.”

“If the time comes and the juices get flowing again, then we will try to give it a spin,” he said. “But there is no rush on my side. I have been an open book with [general manager Brandon] Beane, with [head coach Sean McDermott]. I just got done talking to them and we are all on the same page. I am just 33 years old, man. I want to have a healthy life and my family is the most important thing to me. But at the same time, I do want to win a Super Bowl.”

Hyde’s softball game takes place at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo on Sunday at 2 p.m. Several Bills players will take part in the event, including Bills quarterback Josh Allen.  

Last year, the game raised $400,000 benefiting Hyde’s foundation, the Imagine for Youth Foundation.
