Jacksonville fashion show aims to combat domestic violence and human trafficking

A fashion show and awards program in Jacksonville this weekend aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and human trafficking.

Fetihya Ahmed, founder of Rise Above Abuse Now, said, “The reason we’re doing this is one to educate, to bring awareness to the community, and where people might not realize that the cause of everything starts with community and family.”

“I don’t think children are bad. It’s just they’re running from something. And we want to start from home and community saying this needs to stop,” Ahmed added.

The event, featuring the fashion show and Heroic Overcomer Awards program, is scheduled for Saturday night from 6 to 9 at Sturgeon City, located at 50 Court Street. Tickets are priced at $30.
