Jake’s Gambling Pit: Week 1

Last Week: 3-0 +3.6 Units

UNC at Minnesota +2 O/U 49.5

These two teams mirror each other. North Carolina has to replace Drake Maye and most of the offense, which has long been their identity. Minnesota was underwhelming in 2023 but they return 71% of all production (19th nationally). Due to the Tar Heel’s lack of continuity, and Minnesota’s usual “run first” style, the under is the safe bet. If you are looking for a bigger piece of action. Take Minnesota +2. The Gophers are home and will gel a lot quicker than UNC.

Minnesota +2 Under 49.5

South Dakota State at Oklahoma State -10 O/U 54

The defending FCS Champion travel to Stillwater in a surprise week 1 matchup. The Jackrabbits will be extra motivated to knock off a ranked team in the “big leagues”, where the Cowboys had a few distractions in the offseason. It’s also important to note that OK State usually starts off the season slow (see their game against South Alabama last year). The Jacks have the talent keep it close with the Pokes.

South Dakota State +10

Notre Dame at Texas A&M -3 O/U 46.5

Two good (maybe great) defenses squaring up against offenses that need a little work. Riley Leonhard and Connor Weigman have flashed their talent but they need a little bit of help. This is a high stakes rock fight in front of 100,000 people.

USC vs LSU -4 O/U 64

It’s the opposite of what Notre Dame/Texas A&M will be. Both offenses are lining up against defenses that were taken advantage of last season. The Trojans attempted to fix their defensive woes with D’Anton Lynn as defensive Coordinator, and through the portal. LSU returns its production but has to prove it in the field. Both offenses should be successful by land and air. Leaning toward a Tigers cover, but the over is the play.
