Jamestown Community College has announced that Scott Olson is the new head coach for the women’s volleyball team.

“We’re not only thrilled with the level of experience Scott (Olson) brings to JCC, but the passion he has shown to lead your women both on and off the court,” said JCC Athletic Director George Sisson. “I am excited about the opportunity at a two-year school like Jamestown Community College,” added Olson. “It’s a new chance for me to work with student-athletes at an age I am very familiar and successful with.”

Olson joins the Jayhawks with 27 years of coaching experience, most recently as the interim head coach for Pitt-Bradford. He said that while he has a passion for the sport, his coaching style is a little different than most.

“I believe I bring a lot of empathy. I am not a dictator type of coach. I am someone who likes to work with individuals and bring the best out of them,” he said.

Added Sisson: “It takes a special kind of leader to want to take over a junior college program, and through our interview process, Scott really showed he has the right makeup to guide Jayhawks in all aspects of life.”

Olson takes over a program that finished second in the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) in 2023 and has won multiple regional championships over the past decade. Those lofty expectations are goals he wants to meet and exceed.

“It is something I strive for,” he said. “Obviously, you want to win your last game, that is the goal. For me, I want to build a program where the level of play is the highest it can be. If that is the playoffs, great. If that is nationals, great. I’m looking forward to building the program so that our play will be steady and high.”

Olson plans to hit the ground running as the leader of the Jayhawks. He enters the coach’s box with rich ties to Southern New York and Northern Pennsylvania with stops at Eisenhower High School, Sheffield High School, and Warren Area High School, where he was the head coach of their girls’ varsity teams.

The JCC women’s volleyball schedule is currently set to begin in late August.
