If Lummus had been a tenth of a second faster throughout the NFR, the Gold Buckle would have been his. Instead, the Minnesota native, who entered the Final Round No. 10 in the Projected World Standings completing his climb to the top for his career World Title.
Making Struxness’ run to gold even more improbable was the fact that he missed his first steer of the rodeo. He responded with nine straight runs of 4.5 seconds or faster and an aggregate time of 36 seconds on nine, which is an average time of 4 flat. More importantly, only seven bulldoggers caught all 10, allowing Struxness to grab the eighth spot in the NFR Average and the $8,150 payday that came with it.
