Jefferson Co. small business owner says USPS issues have cost her more than $1,000

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Tara Lawrence is the owner of a goat registry that provides goats to people across the United States for various shows and fairs. These goats require documentation from Tara to be eligible for awards, and lately, the paperwork has been getting lost in the mail, causing financial losses to her business.

According to Karen Snow, who has worked with Tara’s goat business for years, 95% of their business is spread across Canada, California, Florida, Georgia, and New Hampshire. Tara has only had issues twice with the United States Postal Service (USPS) in the last 15 years.

Tara has always trusted USPS to deliver these important documents on time and says that her business depends on the postal service daily, sometimes multiple times a day. She further adds that these issues began in February and are financially impacting their business, which operates on a cash flow basis.

Tara and Karen have attempted to reach out to USPS multiple times through phone calls and online, but have received no response. Losing these documents is having a severe impact on their business and customers, as these documents are required for children to exhibit animals at county fair levels.

She has about eight packages lost with USPS currently that will cost her more than $1,200, and she will have to reissue these documents to her customers, incurring additional expenses.

WBRC has reached out to USPS and they have promised to have someone contact Tara about the problems she is facing. We will update you on air and online as soon as we receive an updated statement from USPS about the mail delays.
