CRAIGSVILLE, Va. (WHSV) – On June 11, there will be a career and resource fair at the Craigsville Community Center.

Some of the participating employers include Augusta Health, Middle River Regional Jail, The City of Staunton, Staunton Public Schools, and more.

Kaystyle Madden, Director of Business Services for the Shenandoah Valley said, “We work with the Virginia Works Rapid Response Team, they are the team that responds to companies that are laying off or closing.”

When the announcement was made that the Augusta Correctional Center was closing, the board was working with Rapid Response Team. Mayor Richard Fox had reached out to the board help. Mayor Fox said the job fair is open to anyone who needs a job or is interested in a new one.

“I think the correctional center has already supplied jobs to all the officers, except for nine of them but I think they retired. They may want to reach out and do something differently, that’s why we are offering this Craigsville, Augusta Springs, Goshen area, this is open to anyone that wants to come,” said Mayor Fox.

While there are workforce offices in Fishersville and Harrisonburg, they do not always get out to farther to reach places.

“It was important for us to bring these resources and job opportunities to them,” said Madden.

Madden said if you are planning to attend the career fair, bring a resume and be prepared to speak with employers. With Craigsville’s location, Mayor Fox said it can be hard to get out there and look for jobs.

“With the vendors that we have, about 10 to 12 of them are going to be there, you have resources that you can take from to find another job if you are interested in one,” said Mayor Fox.

The event will begin at 1pm and go until 4pm.
