Joey Chestnut sets world record in Netflix hot dog eating contest

No Fourth of July hot dog contest? No problem for Joey Chestnut.

The world-famous competitive eater ate a world record 83 hotdogs on Labor Day in an event that aired live on Netflix.

The contest titled “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: “Unfinished Beef” pitted Chestnut against his rival Takeru Kobayashi in a one-on-one, winner-take-all hot dog eating contest.

Japan’s Kobayashi, who dominated the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest before Chestnut’s ascension, set his own personal best record with 66 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

The event was set up much like the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, but the two competitors were not allowed to dunk the hot dogs or bunsin water, they had to eat them in the buns.

It was the first time the two eating titans have faced off since the 2009 competition at Coney Island.

Kobayashi won the Nathan’s contest six consecutive times from 2001 through 2006 before Chestnut pulled off an upset in 2007, winning the first of his 16 titles.

However, Chestnut is now at odds with Major League Eating, the organization that governs the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, and he didn’t compete this year after signing a contract with Impossible Foods.

Patrick Bertoletti won the event in his absence afterdowning 58 hot dogs.
