John Legend ‘horrified’ by assault allegations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

Singer John Legend recently opened up about the abuse and sex trafficking allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs. Expressing his shock and disgust, Legend candidly addressed the serious accusations brought forward by Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, and several other individuals.

Speaking to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Legend expressed, “I was horrified by the descriptions that I read before the video evidence came out. And absolutely it’s something that needs to be brought to light when it happens.”

Legend’s comments come in the wake of disturbing security footage from March 2016, released by CNN earlier this month, showing Combs physically attacking Ventura in a hotel hallway. This footage aligns with Ventura’s claims in a lawsuit filed last November, in which she accused Combs of rape and sex trafficking over a decade-long abusive relationship. The lawsuit has since been settled.

The “All of Me” singer reiterated his stance on supporting victims. “My default stance is to believe women when they make these accusations and to make sure that we do whatever we can to support women. It’s quite a shame. I really just want accountability and hopefully some healing for all of his victims.”

Legend and Combs previously collaborated on the 2023 track “Kim Porter,” named after Combs’ late partner who passed away in 2018.

After the video leak, Combs issued an apology via an Instagram video. “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life,” he said. “I was f***ed up. I mean I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behaviour in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”

“I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to be a better man. Each and every day,” he added.

Despite the disturbing video evidence, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced it would not charge Combs due to the statute of limitations. The office released a statement on May 17 explaining, “If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately, we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.”
