JYP Entertainment launches new boy group Kickflip
7-member Kickflip to make official debut Jan. 20
K-pop powerhouse JYP Entertainment has unveiled the members of its first boy group in nearly seven years, Kickflip, confirming Jan. 20 as the group’s official debut date.
On Monday, the agency announced the debut through Kickflip’s official social media channels, releasing profile images of the seven members — Kyehoon, Amaru, Donghwa, Juwang, Minje, Keiju and Donghyun — along with a promotion schedule. The group’s debut mini album “Flip it, Kick it!” will drop Jan. 20.
JYP also prereleased the music video for the B-side track “Umm Great.” The track features empowering lyrics about confidently pushing back against unwanted advice and staying determined to follow one’s own path.
Leading up to its debut, Kickflip plans to release a variety of teaser content: a choreography practice video on Tuesday, introduction films on Wednesday and Thursday, concept photos from Friday to Jan. 14, a tracklist poster and track video on Jan. 15, and music video teasers on Jan. 16–17.
The group’s name is derived from a skateboarding trick where the skateboard flips 360 degrees using the rider’s toes. It symbolizes the group’s ambition to break boundaries and carve out its own path.
Debut promotions were set to begin on New Year’s Day, but they were delayed following the tragic Jeju Air plane crash on Dec. 29 and the subsequent national mourning period.
