K-Pop Celebrity Sports Show ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships’ Returns To MBC After Two Years

Korean broadcaster MBC has revived its popular K-pop celebrity gameshow Idol Star Athletics Championships (ISAC), which will return in the fall after a two-year hiatus.

Filming will take place in August and the upcoming season will premiere during Korea’s Chuseok holiday season in mid-September.

According to the broadcaster, this year’s show will feature new hosts, including presenter Jun Hyun-moo, singers Lee Chan-won and Kang Daniel, girl group NMIXX’s Haewon and STAYC’s Sieun, as well as rapper Din Din.

First aired in 2010, ISAC features different K-pop idol groups participating in multi-sports events during major Korean holidays, including Korea’s Lunar New Year as well as the chuseok fall harvest festival.

The first edition featured only track and field events, but ISAC has since expanded to include sports like rhythmic gymnastics, esports, futsal and other indoor and outdoor events.

The broadcaster has not yet announced the lineup of K-pop groups set to compete in this year’s event.

Top K-pop stars and groups which have appeared in past editions include BTS, Seventeen, Twice, NCT 127, Stray Kids, Shinee, Sistar and Super Junior.
