Kansas City police arrest suspect after rideshare goes awry, turns into standoff

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – On Wednesday, the Kansas City Police Department arrested a male suspect after he allegedly made “concerning” comments while in a rideshare vehicle.

The incident started just before 11 a.m. on Dec. 11 when officers were called to the shopping center at Westport Road and Southwest Trafficway, behind the Old Westport wagon.

According to KCPD, a rideshare driver was taking the man somewhere else when he started to make concerning comments, including alleged claims that he had a gun. The driver pulled over in the First Watch parking lot and called 911, which is when the standoff with police began.

Another witness said she and her daughter were stuck inside the First Watch restaurant for several hours as they waited to be safely evacuated.

Just after 1 p.m., KCPD confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody.
