Kansas State Men’s Basketball players volunteer at local youth sports camp

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – Several Kansas State Men’s Basketball players volunteered at a youth sports camp on Wednesday night.

The camp was put on by three local churches – Mt. Zion Family Worship Center, Manhattan Christian Fellowship, and Westview Community – and was held at the Douglass Centers and Douglass Park.

Among the Wildcats’ players in attendance were incoming transfers Coleman Hawkins, Max Jones, Dug McDaniel, and Baye Fall.

Jones spoke about the importance of community involvement with his new teammates. Jones is one of eight incoming transfers and nine newcomers overall on this year’s Wildcats’ men’s basketball team.

“It’s going good. We have workouts every day so we be putting in the work mostly….hanging out with the teammates and stuff like that outside of basketball it’s pretty cool….get to go to a bunch of restaurants and stuff like that, which is [also] pretty cool.”

The camp is free for all kids from ages five to fourth grade. Sports ranged from basketball to volleyball, to track and field to karate. While the players were only in attendance on Wednesday night, the camp has run for the last two weeks.

It’ll conclude tomorrow, with a celebration on Sunday at the City Park Pavillion. The celebration will include a joint service, pool party, and barbeque.

As for Jones and the Wildcats men’s basketball team, he says he’s already ready for the season, which is still three months out, to begin.

“I’m ready. I’m ready right now. We’re putting in the work right now to when we get there, it’s gonna be on go.”
