Karsten Warholm wins 300m hurdles in season opener, just missing world record
Karsten Warholm has officially gotten his outdoor Olympic athletics season underway.
The reigning Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles clocked a 33.28 in a rare 300m hurdle outing, crossing the line first at the Trond Mohn Games in Bergen, Norway, a Continental Tour silver-level event.
Warholm was just off his world record of 33.26 in the non-Olympic event, which he set the last time he ran the 300m distance – in 2021.
Warholm’s Norwegian compatriot Andreas Haara Bakketun was second at 35.43. See the full results here.
Warholm wrapped up his indoor season with a silver medal in the 400m flat in early March, finishing runner-up to Alexander Doom.
Warholm is the world record holder in the 400m hurdles, as well, his 45.94 at Tokyo 2020 in 2021 broke his own previous record by nearly a second. He’ll look to go back-to-back in the event, something no man has done since Glenn Davis won two in a row in 1956 and 1960.
