KCPD detectives identify 5 suspects in Midtown business shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Detectives with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department have identified five suspects in a shooting at a Midtown business in early October.

On Friday, KCPD confirmed with KCTV that three juveniles and two adults were involved in an Oct. 9 shooting on Westport Road.

“One adult is currently in custody being held on unrelated charges,” KCPD public information officer Alayna Gonzalez said.

Detective submitted the case file to the prosecutor’s office Thursday for the consideration of applicable charges. KCTV reached out to the prosecutor’s office asking when or what those charges may be, but have yet to hear back.

On Oct. 15, the City of Kansas City shut down Westport Media Collective following the shooting, claiming the business did not have a valid license to operate. The business also did not have a current inspection from the fire marshal and was forced to close immediately as a result of the violations.

A KCPD spokesperson told KCTV earlier this month of the five people injured in the shooting, three had critical injuries and two others had serious injuries.

This is a developing story. KCTV will update it as more information becomes available.
