Kentucky baseball vs Texas A&M prediction in College World Series 2024: Who wins CWS game?

OMAHA, Neb. — The first College World Series game in the history of the Kentucky baseball program will never be forgotten.

Trailing N.C. State by one run in the bottom of the ninth, UK’s Ryan Nicholson tied it with a solo home run. Then Mitchell Daly brought it to a close an inning later, launching a solo shot of his own to lift Kentucky to a 5-4 victory in 10 innings Saturday.

Now, UK prepares for an SEC foe it hasn’t faced all season: Texas A&M, which beat Florida in Saturday’s second nightcap. A weather delay postponed first pitch for more than four hours from the initially scheduled start time of 7 p.m. The Aggies wrapped up their 3-2 win over the Gators after 2 a.m. Sunday.

The Wildcats haven’t tasted defeat since the NCAA Tournament began, posting a 3-0 record in their regional (wins over Western Michigan, Illinois and Indiana State) and sweeping Oregon State (10-0 in Game 1, 3-2 in Game 2) in the super regional round best-of-three series.

The Aggies also own an undefeated mark since the NCAA postseason got underway. Texas A&M topped Grambling, (hated in-state) rival Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette in the Bryan-College Station Regional. It then dispatched Oregon in consecutive games in the super regional to clinch its CWS spot.

Kentucky: The Wildcats have the third-best odds, at +450, to win the College World Series, per BetMGM.

Texas A&M 5, Kentucky 3: The Wildcats have kept finding ways to win since the NCAA Tournament started. But the Aggies will be their toughest test to date. By a considerable margin. Texas A&M owns a top-10 offense and top-10 defense, per numerous statistical categories. And if the Aggies get the ball in the hands of superstar reliever Evan Aschenbeck, it’s game over. In 68 innings (scattered across 29 appearances in 2024), he’s allowed just 14 runs (12 earned). UK will jump out to an early lead Monday, but A&M will rally, with Aschenbeck closing the door for another victory.
