Kevin Martinez announced as new president of business operations for Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners announced Friday that they have promoted Kevin Martinez to president of business operations. The 34-year veteran of the Mariners organization had previously served at as the vice president of marketing and communications, having spent decades in the marketing and promotions departments of the M’s. Martinez began his time in the organization in 1990, following a degree in Public Communications from Syracuse University and initial jobs in and around New York. His tenure with Seattle has made him one of the more accessible members of the organization, engaging with fans online and in person.

Martinez becomes the second full-time president of business operations in club history. His hiring follows the midseason departure of Catie Griggs, who had served in the role since July of 2021. Griggs left the position to take the same role in the Baltimore Orioles organization, in a move that allowed her to be much closer to her East Coast-based family. Griggs had been hired following the resignation of disgraced former team president and CEO Kevin Mather, who had served in that role since 2014. Following the scandal that included Mather and cost him his job, the Mariners reorganized the front office to separate presidential roles into baseball operations and business operations, the former remaining Jerry Dipoto.
