Keweenaw club celebrating Decade of Derby

CALUMET — This year, Keweenaw Roller Derby (KRD) is celebrating 10 years of derby action and they invite you to join in the fun. Keweenaw Roller Derby is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, flat-track roller derby team in the Copper Country.

They support individuals over the age of 18 who are willing to work hard and have fun, regardless of shape, size, orientation and level of athleticism. There is a place for everyone from volunteering and supporting the bout as a non-skating official, to refereeing and skating on the track.

Want to see them roll over the competition? They have home bouts at the Calumet Colosseum on May 25, June 22, July 13 and Aug. 31. Tickets are only $5 at the door, kids 10-years-old and under are free, which opens at 5 p.m. on the day of the bout, with first whistle blowing at 6 p.m. Their first bout, the 10th Annual Solar System Smackdown, has a 1950s theme, so come dressed for the decade to show your support.

Want to roll with KRD? They have a new skater program starting in July. An information session will take place on June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Colosseum. Feel free to reach out to the board at board@keweenawrollerderby.com with any questions.

They’ll have gear for you to try on and explain all the rules of derby so you can feel at home on the team. All skill levels are welcome.

Want to help them roll into action? They’re always looking for volunteers for bouts. There are a variety of jobs available, and they would love to have your help. Email the board at board@keweenawrollerderby.com, let Them know you’re interested in volunteering, and they will get you hooked up.

Want to help them keep on rolling into the future? They have some great sponsors for their Decade of Derby season, and they want everyone to know you can support them through actions big and small. There are many sponsorship levels. Visit https://keweenawrollerderby.com/sponsor-us/ to see how your business can help.
