KPK staff involved in online gambling to face action, says VP Amin

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has emphasized that the government’s online gambling task force will take the requisite actions against employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) found involved in online gambling.

“We have rules that must be enforced,” he told journalists in Bogor district, West Java, on Tuesday.

Amin said that the task force helps Indonesia’s efforts to eradicate online gambling.

“Everyone, including KPK employees, state officials, soldiers, and police officers, is subject to rules. Even legislators were summoned by the Honor Council (of the House of Representatives),” he stated.

Currently, the KPK is following up on allegations about some of its employees being involved in online gambling, according to the commission’s spokesperson, Tessa Mahardika.

He said that the KPK has received a list of names of people suspected of engaging in online gambling, which includes its officials.

However, Mahardika underlined that the commission will first confirm the validity of the list before moving to take action.

“Our inspectorate is still collecting evidence related to the reports. We will then take follow-up measures,” he said on Monday.

On June 14, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed a presidential decree on the establishment of the online gambling eradication task force chaired by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto.
