Kyren Wilson v David Gilbert LIVE: World Snooker Championship latest updates

Man bites young boy’s ear live on air at World Snooker Championship

The World Snooker Championship continues on Friday as Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert resume their tense semi-final clash in the morning session. Wilson, who defeated John Higgins in the last round, started well but slipped behind Gilbert who notched up a couple of high scores to wrestle the momentum in his favour.

Yet in the end was nothing to separate the two over the afternoon session despite the lead switching hands throughout. The duo start today level at 4-4 with Gilbert the slightly happier of the two having scored the higher breaks including a century of 105 in the fourth frame.

Yesterday’s evening session was similarly tight. Stuart Bingham, who defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan to reach this stage of the tournament, took a two frame lead and looked on course to fly ahead of fellow qualifier Jak Jones. However, a few errors crept into his game and Jones took advantage and managed to end the session level at 4-4. These two will be back on the table this afternoon.

Kyren Wilson 6-6 David Gilbert

After a series of safety shots, Wilson is left with a pot to the bottom left which he duly takes. It’s a wonderful shot and spins back onto the pink to start this break with aplomb.

Gilbert attempts a double into the middle right but just misses out on potting it. Wilson is then faced with a touching ball and has to play safe with no potting options available.

Tactical start to this frame.

So, four more frames to go in this morning session. David Gilbert gets the match back underway after making a century in the previous frame.

Can he pick up where he left off?

Everything to play for as Jak Jones fightback adds to intrigue at Crucible

Wilson, the only seed left in the tournament, came from 3-2 and 4-3 down to go in level after the first session in Sheffield. But Jones produced an even braver comeback against the 2015 champion, recovering after a nervy and error-strewn start to turn a 3-0 deficit into parity by the end of the evening.

The best of 33 contests resume on Friday with everything to play for.

Fantastic from Gilbert, especially considering his miss in the last frame. It’s a century break!

His second of the match and eighth for the tournament so far. The Englishman cleans up the whole table for a break of 129 in what was the perfect response, and perfect end, to this half of the session.

Still nothing to split them.

Kyren Wilson 6-5 David Gilbert

By the time he cleans up the loose reds Gilbert’s break is up to 44. Now he needs to open up the rest of them but isn’t in a hurry.

There’s one available to the middle left which he nestles nicely into the pocket and leaves a clear shot on the pink. As the cueball spins back into position two or three reds come loose and that should be that for this frame.

It’s Gilbert’s to lose now.

Kyren Wilson 6-5 David Gilbert

Oh lovely! A tight angle on the only available red for David Gilbert doesn’t worry him and he slots it into the middle left pocket to get on the board first.

He’ll have the opportunity to build a break now.

A good break from Wilson forces Gilbert to play safe with his follow up shot. He’ll be hoping for another chance to score first in this frame.

Already there are two loose reds up by the three baulk colours which could make safety shots interesting.
