Labor Day shopping boosts local businesses in West Monroe’s Antique Alley

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – While many people spend Labor Day relaxing, it’s business as usual in West Monroe’s Antique Alley, where local shops are busy with activity.

The historic district is taking full advantage of the holiday, offering special sales and unique finds that are drawing in both regulars and first-time visitors.

Norma Rice, owner of Antique & Treasures Galore, sees Labor Day as a prime opportunity to connect with customers who might not typically have time to shop during the week.

“It’s a Monday and there are a lot of people that are off today, so we open to give those people an advantage that don’t get to come during the week to come and shop with us and our Labor Day sales,” Rice said.

Across the street, Modern Vintage, which recently celebrated its first anniversary, is also seeing the benefits of staying open on holidays. Liz Felts, the store’s owner, noted that holidays like Labor Day often bring in a good turnout, providing a significant boost to her sales.

“Generally [on] holidays we do pretty well. We’re open most holidays, except for Easter, Christmas, [and] Thanksgiving of course. We’re usually here on the holidays and it’s a good turnout,” Felts said.

For shoppers, Antique Alley offers not only a chance to find one-of-a-kind items but also a way to support local businesses that are the heart of West Monroe’s vibrant community.
