Labor Day travel at Shreveport Regional Airport

SHREVEPORT, La. – U.S. airlines and airports are gearing up for the busiest Labor Day weekend, as a record number of travelers pack their bags and prepare to jet off to squeeze one last summer trip before the season ends. The TSA expects to see 17 million people go through airport security, the busiest on record for the travel period. That’s an 8.5% jump over 2023.

KTBS 3 asked Mark Crawford, Airport Business and Development Manager at Shreveport Regional Airport, what we can expect locally.

“Labor Day is typically one of the busier weekends here at the airport, and this year should be no different. We normally see about 6,000 people from a Thursday to a Monday come through the checkpoint. We anticipate that number to be closer to 7,000 this weekend, just because we know many of the flights are sold out between Thursday and Sunday and Thursday and Monday of next week, we anticipate the busiest days will be Friday and Monday. Returning home after that LSU game and also just the Labor Day weekend,” Crawford said.

Crawford says there is plenty of parking at Shreveport Regional and there’s a brand-new project in the works that will expand parking even more in the future. Also, there are a number of new dining options for travelers looking to grab a bite to eat.
