LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – With Labor Day travel starting Thursday, sources say gas prices are lower than in 2023.

According to AAA and GasBuddy.com, Kentucky gas prices are at a state average of $3.10 per gallon, down 45 cents from last year and 26 cents below the national average.

While the Lexington average is $3.23, Jessamine and Montgomery Counties average closer to $3.05. Garrard, Boyle, and Rowan Counties are below $3 per gallon.

As for travel times, AAA says that Thursday and Friday afternoons are the worst times of the weekend to travel by car.

They say you are best off before 11 a.m. Thursday and before noon on Saturday and Sunday.

AAA says they expect domestic travel to increase by nine percent from 2023.
