Lady Gaga ‘transformed’ her body for her ‘Joker’ role

Lady Gaga has made clear that she can do it all—crush it on stage with her impressive vocals and then blow you away on screen. Her next big role is Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel Folie à Deux, and the 38-year-old worked hard to change her appearance for the film.

Gaga is already getting praise from her co-star Joaquin Phoenix on her dedication to the movie. So, what did she do to transform her physique? Here’s what she shared.

Did Lady Gaga change her physique for Joker: Folie à Deux?

Yes, Lady Gaga lost weight for Joker: Folie à Deux. ‘I remember when I first met you in rehearsals and then you went away for like a month and then you came back, you lost a lot of weight,’ co-star Joaquin Phoenix said in USA Today. ‘It seemed very difficult.’

Gaga added, ‘We transformed into our characters over a period of time and we continued to hone in every kind of detail.’

Last year, Gaga got a lot of attention after sharing video of herself on TikTok where she appeared to have lost a significant amount of weight.

How does Lady Gaga stay fit?

Gaga exercises regularly, having worked with celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak for years. The two usually do 35-minute strength-training sessions five days a week, while Gaga tends to get her cardio from performing, he told Us Weekly.

Gaga is also big into yoga and Pilates, and can do moves like inversions, which are definitely not easy:

What is Lady Gaga’s diet?

Lady Gaga shared little snippets here and there about her overall eating plan.

Her personal chef Bo O’Connor previously said that Gaga is an ‘adventurous eater,’ although she tries to stay away from ultra-processed foods and things made with white flour.

Breakfast may be something like eggs or egg whites with lots of vegetables, or sometimes Greek yoghurt with ‘healthy granola’, O’Connor told The Feast. “If [Gaga] was in the mood for French toast or something sweeter, we would make a healthier version of that for her,” she added.

She also drinks a lot of tea, fresh coconut water, and fresh green juice.

Lunch is usually a hearty salad. ‘She definitely will always have a salad throughout the day, whether it’s for lunch or dinner,’ O’Connor told People in 2017.

For dinner, Gaga may have a gluten-free or quinoa pasta, along with vegetables and grilled shrimp.
