Lakemill Lodge business license suspended after being shut down in October
Lakemill Lodge’s business license was suspended following last month’s shutdown.
The 123-room Reno motel at 200 Mill St. was closed on Oct. 30 after inspectors found human waste and evidence of controlled substances in syringes in the stairwells and common areas of the property, described by police as a haven for drugs and crime in the past.
Reno’s code enforcement, police, fire and building compliance teams conducted the inspection. Northern Nevada Public Health was also called in due to hazmat concerns.
NNPH communications manager Scott Oxarart confirmed to the RGJ that the common areas and stairwells were clean during the follow-up.
The city’s business licensing department held a show cause hearing on Nov. 7, which resulted in the suspension of the motel’s license through July 2025. Lakemill must now comply with the city’s requirements before reopening, according to a Nov. 21 memo to the Reno City Council.
The suspension could be lifted sooner if Lakemill meets the requirements, including bringing in 24-hour security and installing perimeter fencing. Another hearing will be required to confirm compliance before its license can be reinstated, the memo said.
Reno’s Housing and Neighborhood Development department and other community agencies and organizations worked with residents to secure temporary housing when the shutdown occurred.
