Lakewood police officers fatally shoot allegedly armed man near Belmar shopping center – Jeffco Transcript
Two Lakewood police officers fatally shot a man after responding to a trespassing call at the Belmar Shopping Center early on Dec. 2, according to department spokesperson John Romero. The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. near the south side of the Best Buy store.
Police reported that the officers encountered a White man who allegedly pointed a firearm at them, prompting the officers to shoot. Romero stated that a gun belonging to the suspect was recovered at the scene.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to Romero.
The officers were unharmed during the encounter and have been placed on paid administrative leave, following standard department protocol during investigations of officer-involved shootings.
The Lakewood Police Department has announced that more information about the incident will be released later today or tomorrow as the investigation continues.
