Las Vegas airport braces for holiday travel surge

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — More than 1 million travelers are expected to pass through Harry Reid International Airport as they head out to be with family for Christmas.

The holiday rush is in full swing, with travelers expressing both excitement and apprehension about the busy season.

“Just like at Santa’s workshop at the North Pole, Harry Reid International is busy too,” said one traveler, adding, “Here we come, watch out… boom.”

Many travelers are eager to reunite with loved ones. “What are you excited about this Christmas holiday?” one traveler was asked. “Spending it with family and friends,” they replied.

However, the holiday rush can be overwhelming for some. “Too much… too many people… too much just going on everywhere,” one traveler said.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipates screening more than 1 million people at the airport over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season. Luke Ninmo, a traveler, noted, “Travel can be stressful and there can be delays… it could be traffic just getting to the airport.”

To ease the travel experience, Clark County Aviation suggests arriving at the airport earlier than usual, staying in contact with your airline, and avoiding wrapping gifts before flying to prevent delays.

Despite the potential challenges, some travelers remain optimistic. “It hasn’t been that bad so far… so pray for me,” one traveler said.
