Latino fitness influencer remains in critical condition after being shot in attempted robbery in L.A.

Miguel Angel Aguilar, the Latino fitness influencer and owner of gym chain Self Made Training, is in critical condition after being shot during a robbery in Los Angeles. Aguilar, 43, suffered a gunshot wound and is currently in intensive care, according to an update shared on his Instagram account.

On social media, Aguilar’s team described him as a beloved figure in a heartfelt message:

“We are heartbroken to share that Miguel was involved in a serious incident last night. He sustained a gunshot injury and is currently fighting bravely in the intensive care unit. Miguel is a beloved individual, and his strength, leadership, accomplishments, and resilience have inspired many. We know that he is surrounded by the love and support of his family, friends, all of you, and we are confident in his ability to overcome this.”

The post then went on to ask for prayers and positive thoughts as well as asking for followers to “respect the privacy of his friends and family at this time.”

Aguilar, who runs the popular Instagram account Self Made Family, which has over 50,000 followers, is known for offering fitness and entrepreneurship advice besides. He also owns Self Made Training gyms across more than two dozen locations in California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida, and Texas.

Aguilar is married to Priscilla Valles, a celebrity stylist who’s worked with celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Kendall Jenner and Dua Lipa.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Aguilar was approached by four suspects around 4:20 p.m. on September 13 near the 11400 block of North Thurston Circle. It was not clear whether Aguilar was resistant or tried to fight back, but police say one of the suspects produced a handgun. The suspects demanded his belongings before shooting him and fleeing the scene, as CBS News reports.

Police are surveying the neighborhood, trying to see if the suspect vehicle was caught on any security cameras. All four suspects are outstanding.
