SULPHUR, Okla. (KSWO) – Everything changed for the residents of Sulphur, Oklahoma after a deadly tornado tore through their town.

“I thought at one point my whole house and everything was just going to right off the top of the foundation.,” said Paul Manning, one Sulphur resident.”

Five days later, and the clean up is still underway with no end in sight. Though the community has come together. People from all over have made their way to the small town to lend a helping hand, including one church from Lawton and Oklahoma City.

Members of the World Mission Society Church of God rolled up their sleeves to give a helping hand.

“We were able to bring donations here today, bringing waters, diapers, food, which the community needs a lot of right now,” one church volunteer said. “As you can see around you there is so much disaster. Not only that but we came out here to help the community wherever we can.”

For many asking for help is hard, but the church was more than willing to get their hands dirty and help Manning in any way they could.

“A lot of people don’t ask for help in today’s society but we as the members of World Mission Society Church of God, we want to share the love of God and understand it’s ok to ask for help and we really have the heart and mind,” the church volunteer said. “Like I said, help our neighbors in this global community.”

Even though Sulphur is a small community, they’re still people and they still need help.

“If I didn’t have all of the help of these people, and friends and family, I just don’t know what I would do,” Manning said.

It was more than just the church, there were hundreds of people helping others. From high school students driving around passing out sandwiches to food truck owners giving out free meals.

The town of Sulphur may be small but their hearts are big.

“I always try to find some good in the bad, I know this was a major catastrophe for me, but on the other hand, like I said, I survived the tornado.
