Learfield Names Lucas Motta Vice President, Longhorn Sports Properties at University of Texas
AUSTIN, Texas (July 18, 2024) – Learfield, the exclusive multimedia rightsholder for the University of Texas Athletic Department, has named Lucas Motta the new Vice President of its locally-based team, Longhorn Sports Properties.
As Vice President, Motta will serve as the primary Learfield liaison related to the university’s comprehensive athletics multimedia rights agreement and corporate partner platform. He will work closely with Chris Del Conte, UT Vice President and Lois and Richard Folger Athletics Director and the entire athletics administration on all aspects of the Learfield/Longhorns relationship.
“With the fast-evolving landscape of NIL and collegiate athletics as a whole, it is more critical than ever to examine and re-examine every aspect of revenue generation, including sponsorship programs, to make sure we are maximizing all opportunities for our student-athletes and programs,” said Chris Del Conte, UT Vice President and Lois and Richard Folger Athletics Director. “Lucas brings a new vision on sponsorships and fan engagements that will deepen our relationships with our corporate sponsors, cultivate new sponsorship categories, refine fan engagement, develop new NIL opportunities and continue to drive the Longhorns brand to new heights.”
Motta brings more than 12 years of executive level sales leadership and sports sponsorships experience to the Longhorn Sports Properties team. He previously served as general manager of Oregon Sports Properties at Oregon State, where he oversaw the team’s multimedia rights agreement and successfully executed a comprehensive go-to-market strategy to increase revenue from existing and new brand partners, while effectively reducing partnership attrition. Throughout his career with Oregon State, he held various roles including director and senior manager of business development where his strategic vision was instrumental in driving growth and innovation. Motta is a graduate of Knox College.
“We are excited to appoint Lucas Motta as Vice President of Longhorn Sports Properties,” said Kim Damron, Learfield’s President of Sports Properties. “His expertise in fostering enduring relationships and implementing innovative revenue strategies will be instrumental in evolving the future of Longhorn Sports Properties, ensuring unparalleled success for our corporate partners and enhancing the fan experience across Texas Athletics.”
Most recently, Longhorn Sports Properties worked with Texas Athletics to launch the reimagined LHN (Longhorn Network) streaming service. Learfield Studios, the leader in college athletics original content, and Texas Athletics are currently in development of content franchises featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes access to sports programs, interviews with student-athletes and coaches, a 24/7 channel and replays of the greatest games in ESPN’s Longhorn Network archive.
“I am thrilled and honored to step into the role of the Vice President of Sponsorships at Longhorn Sports Properties,” remarked Lucas Motta. “Working alongside such a talented team, I am excited to harness the limitless brand power of the Texas Longhorns. In collaboration with the Athletic Department, we will build upon the property’s already remarkable achievements and propel it to even greater success in the future.”
In addition to its flagship multimedia rights division, University of Texas also utilizes Learfield’s digital ticket and marketing platform provider Paciolan, digital solutions leader SIDEARM Sports, licensed merchandise agency CLC, and stadium and arena seating solutions provider Learfield Amplify.
