Legislation would set aside more money to fight gambling addiction

A package of bills that would increase the amount of money used to help problem gamblers is moving forward in the Michigan Legislature.

Kevin Koorstra from the House Fiscal Agency says yearly deposits into the compulsive prevention gaming fund would be increased from $2 million to $6 million.

This additional funding will be used to support the problem gaming helpline, media outreach, and provide additional prevention programming, including additional services and new services targeted for youth,” Koorstra said.

Koorstra addressed the House Appropriations Committee this week.

The compulsive gambling fund is supported with state Lottery revenue each year.
