LEGO Horizon Adventures Missing Major Feature on PlayStation

Key Takeaways

  • LEGO Horizon Adventures will not offer any PS5 Pro enhancements at launch.
  • PS5 players can toggle between 30fps Fidelity mode and 60fps Performance mode in LEGO Horizon Adventures.
  • These modes will be available for LEGO Horizon Adventures players on PS5 Pro, and the upgraded console may even retroactively improve the game’s performance.

Newly published reviews for LEGO Horizon Adventures confirm that the game will not be enhanced for the PlayStation 5 Pro at launch. As the first PlayStation Studios title to release after the PS5 Pro’s launch, many expected LEGO Horizon Adventures to be optimized for the upgraded mid-generation console, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Co-developed by Horizon series custodian Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo, LEGO Horizon Adventures is a lighthearted and whimsical take on the post-apocalyptic franchise. The world of Horizon and its characters, including protagonist Aloy, are all modeled as colorful LEGO bricks in LEGO Horizon Adventures, as opposed to the grittier and more serious aesthetic of the mainline entries. LEGO Horizon Adventures is set to release in just one day for PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, but one significant platform is oddly absent from this list.

LEGO Horizon Adventures’ Melting Pot Approach is a Lesson for Future LEGO Games

LEGO Horizon Adventures looks like its borrowing a lot from LEGO’s past, and that might be the best direction for the franchise’s future.

LEGO Horizon Adventures reviews have begun to pour in ahead of launch, and many of them reveal that the game has no native support for the PS5 Pro. This is undoubtedly disappointing for gamers who recently bought a PS5 Pro and are looking forward to new game releases that benefit from the console’s beefier hardware. LEGO Horizon Adventures being a PlayStation first-party title makes its lack of PS5 Pro support all the more baffling, since many other PlayStation Studios games showed up in droves for the console’s launch on November 7.

LEGO Horizon Adventures PS5 Performance Details and Modes

Fidelity Mode

  • Higher-resolution textures
  • Detailed lighting and shadows
  • 30fps framerate

Performance Mode

  • Reduced visual effects
  • 60fps framerate

As it stands, LEGO Horizon Adventures will offer Fidelity and Performance modes on PS5 at launch. The Fidelity mode features sharper visuals and more detailed lighting and shadows at the cost of a 30fps framerate, whereas Performance mode sacrifices some visual bells and whistles for a smooth 60fps. These modes will be available for those playing LEGO Horizon Adventures on PS5 Pro as well. Moreover, the PS5 Pro could clean up performance hiccups even without official support, provided LEGO Horizon Adventures has any.

The PS5 Pro launched with over 50 enhanced games, so it does seem peculiar that PlayStation’s first game after the console’s release isn’t optimized for it. However, it’s entirely possible that Guerrilla and Studio Gobo were simply focused on polishing LEGO Horizon Adventures for the three major platforms it will release on. It’s hard to imagine that PS5 Pro enhancements for LEGO Horizon Adventures aren’t being planned, but the question of when they’ll be made available continues to linger.
